AutoPacific Forecasts Three More Years of Growth for U.S. Light Vehicle Sales
AutoPacific today officially announced its forecast for 2015 U.S. light vehicle sales. Predicting a 547,000 unit increase over 2014, AutoPacific forecasts a 2015 year-end total just shy of 17 million units. If sales reach the forecast, it will mark the highest sales year since 2006.
Michelin, Pirelli, Nitto Keep Up With Changing Consumer Demands
According to the results of the latest installment of AutoPacific’s annual Replacement Tire Brand Dynamics and Satisfaction Study, Michelin ranks 1st in replacement tire owner satisfaction, followed by Pirelli ranking 2nd. Nitto moved up 3 spots to 3rd place in the rankings this year, while former 3rd ranking Goodyear slipped to 5th.

AutoPacific's newly released Autonomous Vehicles Study reveals that 80% of vehicle owners are aware of self-driving, or “autonomous,” vehicles and 29% of them would be interested in having one of their own someday. They’d even pay upwards of $4,000 to have the technology. The study investigates consumers’ views on autonomous vehicles, their interest in them, and their reasons for being, or not being, interested, as well as semi-autonomous vehicles and vehicle features.

AutoPacific's official 2nd quarter forecast update of 2014 U.S. light vehicle sales shows a very slight uptick compared to the forecast issued in January. "While the challenging weather during the 1st quarter may have kept some buyers out of dealerships, year-end sales remain on track with AutoPacific's original forecast, with a slight increase that aligns with the country's economic recovery," explains Ed Kim.

Predicting greater than a 550,000 unit increase over 2013, AutoPacific forecasts a 2014 year-end total of 16.1M units. With forecast accuracy of 97.4% in 2013, AutoPacific achieves a 10-year average accuracy of 95%.

Tire satisfaction scores provide insight into many areas, from individual attribute performance to future brand consideration. “Owner satisfaction and future brand consideration share a strong correlation,” says AutoPacific president George Peterson. “Owners who are highly satisfied with their tire experience are much more likely to consider that same brand for a future tire purchase, improving a brand’s consumer retention ability.”
